eFoil Racing Live

Privacy

Last updated 25 October 2026 · applies to the live page at efoilracing.app/live, the pages under it, and the eFoil Racing app for iPhone, Apple Watch and Android

This page is the privacy policy of the eFoil Racing app, on the App Store for iPhone and Apple Watch and on Google Play for Android (eFoil Racing, package racing.efoil.app), and of the live page. It explains what the live map shows, what it keeps about you while you watch, and what it loads from other companies. What the app records about you as a rider is in In the app, further down, starting with a short list.

Who is responsible

The eFoil Racing app and this page are run by MultiVA B.V., Zilverschoon 51, 2224 GJ Katwijk, the Netherlands, which publishes the app on Google Play under the developer name eFoil Racing App. MultiVA B.V. is responsible for the data described on this page. Questions, objections and requests about your data: [email protected]. The contact address shown on Google Play, [email protected], reaches us too.

What the live page shows

Riders who set Live sharing to Everyone in the app appear on the map while they ride, in real time: the name they chose in the app, their position, heading and speed, the trail of the last minutes, distance and time, and on a race course their lap and lap times. They can stop this at any moment in the app, and a ride disappears from the map when it ends. Replay shows the same trail for the last fifteen minutes and nothing older. Club pages show the same riders for one club, plus a monthly table with first name and initial.

Riders decide this themselves in the app. If you are a rider and want a ride removed from what spectators saw, write to us.

Race cam

During an event the page can show a live video of the course, filmed by us or by the organiser and streamed through Cloudflare Stream. It shows the race area and whoever is in it: riders, boats, the shore. We may keep a recording of a broadcast to reuse clips of the race. If you were filmed and want a clip removed, write to us and say roughly when.

Riders who share their ride live in the app can be sent a short clip of their own pass in front of the camera. Such a clip is private to the rider until they share it, it names who filmed it, it is deleted after 90 days, the rider can delete it at any time and switch clips off under Settings → Privacy, and the person who filmed can take back everything they sent.

What we keep about you while you watch

When you open the live page we count who is watching, so that riders can see how many people follow them and so that we can run race broadcasts. For that we keep, for ten minutes after your last visit, the list of who is watching right now, and for 90 days a log of each visit:

Our staff use that log to see who watched a race and from where. For a visit that was not signed in, the log also notes which app account it probably belongs to, when the same browser watched signed in before, when an app account used the same IP address in the last 30 days, or when the Shaka name is the first name of one account. That is a guess, marked as one, visible to our staff only, and never shown to riders or other viewers. To make it possible we also keep, for 90 days, the IP addresses each signed-in account used the app from.

If you watch signed in to the app, other signed-in app users watching at the same time, and the rider you are watching, see your name in the list of who is watching, as rider search would show it to them: your full name if you are friends or your public profile shows it, otherwise your initial and surname. Someone you blocked, or who blocked you, sees you only as one of the anonymous viewers. Everyone who is not signed in is only counted, as anonymous.

Daily totals are kept as numbers only, for longer. Staff who open the list of viewers or the visit log are logged. No advertising and no third-party analytics are involved, and nothing is shared with anyone else.

The city lookup uses a MaxMind GeoLite2 database on our own server. Your address is not sent to MaxMind or anyone else for it.

Shaka

Sending a Shaka shows the rider your name and emoji on their phone and lists them for a while on the live page next to the rider. They are stored with that ride. Type a nickname if you prefer. The name is remembered in your browser so you do not have to type it twice.

Stored in your browser

The page uses no cookies. It keeps three small values in your browser's local storage: the random viewer identifier, your Shaka name, and the layout you picked. They never leave your browser except as described above, and you can delete them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Loaded from other companies

To show the map and the video the page loads parts from other companies. Each of them receives your IP address and the usual browser details when your browser fetches from them:

None of these is given anything about you by us; they see only what your browser sends when it fetches from them.

Embedded on other websites

Organisers can embed the live page on their own site. Everything above applies to the embedded page too, and the site that embeds it has its own policy for what it does itself.

In the app

This part applies when you use the eFoil Racing app: on iPhone and Apple Watch, and on Android phones. Both apps use the same account and the same server, so everything below applies to both unless it names one of them. The app works without an account for recording; everything below that mentions your account applies once you sign in.

What the app collects, at a glance

Each item says what we use it for, whether you can do without it, and how long we keep it. The sections below give the details.

On iPhone the account can also hold a profile photo and your board's battery readings, and we receive your Pro status from Apple; see below. The app shows no advertising and uses no advertising ID. The Android app does not read your contacts, your photos or any health data. Our server's error logs, which can contain technical details of a request, are deleted after 14 days.

How your data travels and who receives it. Everything between the app and our server travels encrypted (HTTPS). We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with other companies for their own purposes. The companies below handle it only as service providers working for us, and each receives only what it needs:

Your account

Name, email address and a password, which we store hashed. Your profile (country, sponsor, photo) and your settings. Other riders see your name and profile where the app shows them: friends lists, leaderboards, club pages, and the live map when you share a ride.

Now and then we email you news about the app, such as what a new version brings. Each such email says how to stop them: reply "unsubscribe" and we send you no more app news. Emails about your account itself, such as a password reset, still reach you.

Rides

While you record, the app keeps your position several times a second, with speed, heading, distance, laps and sector times. A finished ride is uploaded to your account so it is there on every device and can be validated for a leaderboard. You delete a ride in the app; "Delete from phone and cloud" hides it at once from your account and from anything other riders could see, withdraws its leaderboard entries at once, and 30 days later erases it from our server, with its laps, leaderboard entries and files. Within those 30 days our support staff can still see it and help with it, for example to bring back a ride deleted by mistake.

On Android the app uses your location only while it is open on a screen that shows where you are, and while you record. A recording keeps running with the screen off and shows a notification for as long as it does. The app does not ask for your location in the background at any other time.

Rides in progress and Live sharing

When you start a ride while signed in, the app tells our server that a ride has started and, while you ride, where you are. Live sharing in the app decides who can watch: nobody, your friends, or everyone (the public live page). Whatever you choose, a small number of our staff can see rides in progress, position, speed and distance, to help when something goes wrong with a ride, a recording or a device, and to keep the service running. Every time staff open that view it is logged. Live positions are deleted 7 days after the ride ends (if you delete your account before then, 30 days after you delete it); the saved ride is kept as described under Rides. When you delete that ride with "Delete from phone and cloud", what is left of its live ride is erased from our server with it, 30 days later.

Leaderboards

A ride you submit to a leaderboard is checked against the course and, when it passes, shown with your name, time and track to everyone using the app or the website. Withdrawing it removes it from the board. Deleting the ride with "Delete from phone and cloud" does the same: it withdraws its entries at once, and the board is ranked again without them.

Friends, followers, clubs and Shaka

Friend requests, friendships, who you follow, who you have blocked, club memberships and the Shakas you send are stored with your account and shown to the people involved. Blocks are never shown to the blocked person. Our staff can see these lists to handle a report or a support request; opening them is logged.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, the app gets a device token, from Apple on iPhone and from Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android, and we keep it with your account to send them, for example when a friend goes live or sends you a Shaka. Each notification travels through that service, so Apple or Google receives the token and the notification's text (such as the name of the friend who went live) in order to deliver it. On Android the app uses only this part of Firebase: no Firebase analytics and no Firebase crash reporting. Turning notifications off in your phone's settings stops them. Deleting your account removes the token. On Android, signing out removes it too; on iPhone it stays with your account until you delete the account or Apple stops accepting it.

Bluetooth: GPS receivers, board and battery

If you connect a GPS receiver over Bluetooth (a RaceBox or a Dragy), your ride's positions and speed come from it instead of from the phone, and the app remembers which receiver you chose. To find it, the app looks for Bluetooth devices nearby.

On iPhone you can also connect your board's battery over Bluetooth. The app then records what it reports (charge, voltage, temperature, firmware) and stores those readings with your account, so you can look back at them and we can help with battery questions.

Coach

The Coach summary (Pro, in the iPhone app) is written from your ride's statistics: speeds, turns, sectors, laps and consistency. Those numbers, and no name, email or position, are sent to Anthropic, which runs the language model that writes the summary and does not use what we send to train its models. The rule-based summary that does not leave our server is what you get when the model is not available.

How you use the app

When you are signed in, the app records which screens you open and which buttons you press, with the time, and sends that to us when you close the app. It does not record what you type. We use it to find problems and to decide what to improve; our developers can read it. It is deleted after 90 days, and the technical diagnostic log that travels with it after 30 days. This is on unless you turn it off, on iPhone and on Android alike. You can turn it off in Settings → Privacy; the app works the same with it off. On Android the app first tells you, once after you sign in, what it sends, with the same switch, and sends nothing before that.

Pro subscription

In the iPhone app, Pro is paid through Apple. We receive only whether your subscription is active and until when, never your card or bank details. Refunds and cancellation are handled in your Apple account.

The Android app will sell the same yearly Pro, through Google Play; from version 1.1.0 it already asks Google Play whether Pro is on offer, and it does not sell Pro yet. Google Play takes the payment: we never see your card or bank details, and refunds and cancellation are handled in your Google Play account. Pro belongs to your eFoil Racing account, not to the phone or the store: Pro bought on Android counts in the iPhone app when you sign in there with the same account, and Pro from an iPhone subscription, or that we gave you, counts in the Android app. For that the apps ask our server whether your account has Pro.

When you buy Pro in the Android app:

For each purchase we keep your account ID, the product, until when it runs, whether it ended early (a refund, or a newer purchase replacing it), whether it was confirmed to Google, whether it was a test purchase, when we first saw it and last checked it, and the purchase token with a fingerprint of it (its SHA-256 hash) by which our database finds the purchase. We keep the token because Google answers about a purchase only when asked with it. We send it to nobody but Google, and our server's logs never contain it: they name a purchase by the first 12 characters of its fingerprint, and a refunded one by Google's order number. What Google answers also holds details we do not keep, such as the price, the country of your Google Play account and, if you cancel, the reason you gave Google. Our staff can see whether your account has Pro, through which store, and until when.

This record stays after the subscription ends, as the history of your Pro, and is not deleted automatically. Deleting your account does not delete it either: it then stays without your name or email, tied to an account ID that no longer belongs to anyone, and Google's notifications keep updating it while the subscription runs. If a new account later claims the same subscription, for example when you sign in to a new account in the Android app on a phone whose Google Play account still has it, our server attaches it to that new account. The record of a subscription bought through Apple also stays after the subscription ends and after you delete your account. To have such a record deleted, write to [email protected].

Maps and Apple Watch

Maps in the app, on iPhone and on Android, come from Mapbox, which receives your IP address and the map areas you view when the app fetches them. Mapbox's own privacy policy applies to that traffic. To show the town under a ride or a track, the phone asks its own place-name service what lies at that point: Apple's on iPhone, Google's on Android. Only the point is sent, not your account, your name or the ride itself. The Apple Watch app shows your ride in progress; it does not read or store health data.

Deleting your account

In the app, on iPhone or on Android, Settings → Delete account deletes it right away: the account, its rides, laps and leaderboard entries, friends, follows, club memberships, plans, notifications and the notification tokens of your phones, device and battery readings, diagnostics and usage trail, profile and photo. The files and live positions that remain, such as the recordings of your rides, are erased from our server 30 days later. The record of a Pro subscription stays, without your name or email; see Pro subscription. It cannot be undone. Spots and tracks you added stay for everyone, without your name on them. If you own a club that still has members, hand it over first.

Deleting some of your data: you can remove a single ride from your account and from everything other riders see, without deleting your account. In the app, delete the ride in Sessions and choose Delete from phone and cloud. It is hidden from everyone at once, its leaderboard entries are withdrawn at once, and it is erased from our server 30 days later; within those 30 days our support staff can still help, for example if you deleted it by mistake (write to [email protected]). To stop sending diagnostics and the usage trail, turn off Settings → Privacy → Diagnostic and usage data; what was already sent is deleted from our server after 30 days (diagnostics) and 90 days (usage trail). For anything else, write to the same address and say what you want deleted; we do it within 30 days.

Without the app: write to [email protected] from the address on your account and say you want your account deleted. We delete it, as described above, within 30 days and reply when it is done.

Deleting your account does not cancel a Pro subscription bought through Apple. Cancel it in your Apple account (on iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions), or Apple keeps charging it. Nor does it cancel one bought in the Android app: cancel that in Google Play (in the Play Store app: your profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions, or at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions), or Google keeps charging it.

Legal basis and your rights

For the app, our basis is performing the service you asked for and our legitimate interest in supporting it (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b) and (f)); for how you use the app, our legitimate interest in keeping it working, with the switch above to object. For counting viewers and running broadcasts, our legitimate interest in running live events and showing riders their audience (Art. 6(1)(f)). The viewer identifier measures our own audience and does not follow you across other websites, which is why the page shows no cookie banner.

You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be deleted, and object to this processing, by writing to [email protected]. A visit to the live page that was not signed in is not tied to a name, so tell us your viewer tag, your Shaka name or the IP address and the time of your visit, and we delete those visits from the log. You can also complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Children

The app is meant for riders aged 18 and over and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly keep an account for anyone under 18. If you think a child has an account, write to [email protected] and we delete it.

Changes

When the live page or the app starts doing something new with your data, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. The date shows when this page last changed.
